The law has been changed in Thailand
Key updates to travel and visa rules for visitors to Thailand. Travelers were very happy about this good news.
The Thai government has decided to allow registered establishments to sell alcoholic beverages even during the previously prohibited hours of 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition, the time during which visitors to licensed bars and restaurants are allowed to finish their ordered drinks at night has been extended by an hour.
These innovations are being introduced for a trial period of 180 days. Alcohol control committees in both Bangkok and other provinces will be required to assess the consequences of these changes in order to make a final decision. The exclusive right to trade outside the established hours is reserved only for international airports.
What makes it good for visitors to Thailand?
The resolution extends the already existing permitted hours of alcohol sales (from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to midnight), completely abolishing the three-hour restriction after lunch. While the total ban on sales after midnight remains in place, patrons of licensed establishments are now given until 1:00 a.m. to finish consuming their drinks.
The new regulations came into effect on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, after being published in the Royal Gazette the previous day. Health Minister Pattana Frompat confirmed that these latest changes are in line with the current economic situation.
