When to celebrate Chinese New Year 2026: the exact date of the holiday
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important and revered holiday in Eastern culture.
Unlike the Western New Year, which has a fixed date, the Spring Festival does not. It is determined by the lunisolar calendar and always falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice. Since the winter solstice in 2025 occurs on December 21, Chinese New Year in 2026 will be celebrated on February 17.
The year 4723 will begin on this date. Celebrations in China traditionally last for about two weeks and will conclude on March 3, 2026.
During this period, the country comes alive with colorful street festivals, decorations, and the exchange of red gifts symbolizing good luck and prosperity.
